BB or CC Cream? How Are They Different? Which One to Choose?

Hey, Girls! 🙂

With the summer around the corner, I always swap my regular heavy foundations for a lighter coloring cream to let my skin breathe more freely. I’m sure you’ve heard about BB and CC creams, and that they are perfect for the summer. Today I’ll try to help you realize those products are great all year, especially if you want to create natural-looking makeup.

If you’re looking for a less thick foundation but you have no idea where to start, I’m here to help! 🙂

Things you need to learn first

BB and CC creams are the cosmetics that combine the properties of at least 3 other skincare products. In most cases, these are:

  • a moisturizer
  • a foundation
  • a concealer

These products help you create an effect of subtle makeup that doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. They even stay on the face in hot weather and don’t clog pores. When you apply either BB or CC cream, you may skip the day cream because both of them are already enriched with nutrients. In the majority of cases, BB and CC creams contain SPF, so again, you can skip applying sunscreens and still keep your skin protected from sun damage.

As you can see, BB and CC creams are not only universal but also they help you save so much time while doing makeup. Instead of applying 3 or even 4 products, you use just 1!

What is the difference between BB and CC creams?

Do you know what the abbreviations “BB” and “CC” stand for? “BB” is a shorter form for “Blemish Balm”, which basically means that you use it to camouflage imperfections. “CC” stands for “Color Cream” whose major task is to even skin tone a bit, covering up discoloration and other blemishes. Both of them moisturize and nourish the skin like a face cream does, even out the skin tone and camouflage nasty skin parts like a foundation. They also shield against external aggressors, forming a protective barrier on the skin.

How do they differ? I’d say that CC cream is a stronger version of BB cream. The CC cream formula has more pigment, and thus offers stronger coverage, yet it’s still more lightweight than a regular foundation. That being said, if your skin has a hard time tolerating thick foundations, my advice would be to go for CC creams. The best thing about them is that they contain special pigments they adapt to the shade of the complexion they are applied to.

BB or CC cream: Which one is better for you?

In my opinion, a CC cream is a better option for those with problematic complexions that are prone to acne and breakouts. Because of the more lightweight formula and lower coverage range, BB cream may not be able to hide all types of skin imperfections. Pimples, redness and discoloration can be seen through the BB cream. But if your skin is free from some “serious” blemishes, BB cream should be perfect for you.

Now, it’s your turn! What do you prefer better: subtle coverage and a natural look, or a perfectly smooth, almost velvety complexion that only the foundation is able to create? Tell me in the comments!

I hope I encouraged you to have a go at BB and CC creams.
