Girls!
I’m throwing a phrase at you: heat styling. What comes to your mind?
Damaged hair. Dehydrated strands. Split and frazzled ends. No control over curls. Dull, faded color – no matter if natural or dyed…
Luckily, to me all of this is a thing of the past now. I discovered what heat protection spray is.
HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HAIR
Our hair hates high temperatures. Believe it or not, but heat damages the hair pretty badly. Therefore, I’d like you to realize that heat protection is vital, especially if you use hot styling tools regularly.
Actually, there are a few ways to keep the hair safe from frying:
- Whenever you can, don’t blow-dry your hair – let it air dry.
- Avoid heat styling – cut down on using a curling iron and blow dryer.
- Go for no heat curls – use velcro rollers or flexi rods.
- If you heat style your hair, ALWAYS protect it from the high temps.
And today I’m going to draw your attention to the 4th point on my list. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t say that everything about heat styling is bad. If you protect the hair, you can expose it to the high temperatures to create the hairstyle you want. The damage won’t be done as long as you use the right cosmetics.
HEAT PROTECTION PRODUCTS FOR HAIR
Good for us, there are many cosmetics designed to protect our hair from the negative effects of high temperatures. These miraculous products are
- conditioners, masks and hair styling creams
- natural plant oils, e.g. argan oil, castor oil
- heat protection sprays
I’m a big fan of the latter and there are a few reasons for that. Most of all, I like them because of the lightweight formula and ease of use (no need to stain the hands).
In case you are new to the idea of heat protectants, I would like to recommend a few products. Note: Not every heat protectant delivers the same effects.
HEAT STYLING PRODUCTS
Actually, I should have titled this section: reviews of the best heat protection sprays. I’ve arranged the products in order, starting from the best to amazing, but with a few tiny downsides that I will tell you about.
What hair styling sprays do I recommend?
● Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray
This cosmetic is unrivaled when it comes to its application. It keeps my hair safe even when I expose it to 440 °F (220 °C). I also like it for being formulated with silk proteins that make my hair smooth and strong enough to stop breaking and splitting. Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray smells nice, is easy to apply and creates a lightweight protective coating that boosts shine. Apart from that, this product combats frizz and static, making hair styling not only safer, but also easier and quicker. This is my #1.
● Bb. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer
Another great product that can save your hair from heat damage is offered by Bumble and Bumble. Side note: I like their products for being so beautifully designed. Heat / UV Protective Primer is a blend of six lightweight oils – argan, macadamia, coconut, safflower, grape and almond – that form an invisible coating on the hair. Thanks to the blend, the spray from Bumble and Bumble shields damp and dry hair from high temperatures and increases the manageability of hair. I’d love it even more if this spray had less alcohol and plant-based butters that clearly don’t suit all hair types.
● Kerastase Chronologiste Thermique Regenerant
This black, slim, thick glass bottle stores hair-loving and deeply moisturizing ingredients that make hair stronger and better-looking. I’m talking about hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. I know that most people associate those substances more with skin care, but they are perfectly able to moisturize the hair as well. Another thing I like about Thermique Regenerant is that it provides 24-hour frizz control, making it easier to style the hair and keep it in place. The finish looks natural and is shiny. Unfortunately, Kerastase Chronologiste Thermique Regenerant is one of the most expensive cosmetics.
● Moroccanoil Color Complete Spray
Lastly, a product from the Moroccanoil brand which I love for adding this wonderful argan oil to all their cosmetics. Of course, this heat protection spray formula includes more great ingredients such as sunflower seed extract and castor oil. This is where the natural ingredients end, being overtaken by artificial substances. It doesn’t mean though that Moroccanoil Color Complete spray can’t protect the hair (especially color-treated hair) from UV and heat very well. You may also count on getting more hydration and nourishment.
Naturally, these aren’t all heat protection sprays worth testing!
Which product am I currently using? As you can guess, it’s Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray <3
But there are way more heat protectants for hair that you may give a try. I have only mentioned the products that worked for me, and I truly believe you too will like the effects they create. Have a go at heat protection sprays and let me know in the comments how they work for your tresses. Thanks for all the feedback!
Till next time!
